The Institute of Medicine (IOM) was established in 1972 under Tribhuvan University with the mandate and the responsibility of training all the categories of health manpower needed in the country. Within the first decade of its establishment, it developed a total of 12 campuses scattered over the country out of which 3 campuses were in Kathmandu and 9 campuses were outside the Kathmandu Valley.

Initially, the emphasis of IOM was on the training of middle-level health workers. Programmes serving this purpose include ANM, CMA, Proficiency Certificate Course in General Medicine, Pharmacy, Radiology, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Health Laboratory and Traditional Medicine.

The institutional goals of IOM have continued to change. The mission of the IOM expanded into training tertiary-level health professionals. By 1977 it had at the graduate level two-year Bachelor programmes in Community Nursing, Paediatric Nursing and Adult Nursing.

In 1978, a community-oriented integrated MBBS programme was started with intake of 22 students. Subsequently, the class size was increased to 60, and in 2013 it was further increased to 76. IOM offers 45 scholarship seats in MBBS every year.

Infrastructure & Facilities:

Institute of Medicine provides high quality academic education with many other facilities. To produce professionals in the field of medicine, IOM focuses on providing on hand practical education. The college consists of laboratories with various technologies, well-equipped library, well-furnished classrooms,  dedicated and experienced team of teaching faculty. The college also provides project works, field visit, and internship opportunity as per the course demand. There is also an availability of various scholarship schemes.

Institute of Medicine, Nepal courses offered includes a 4 ½ years and 1 year compulsory internship after clearing the final examination.

Eligibility Criteria for IOM MBBS Admission:

# Age Limit: Minimum age 17 years as on December 2020.

# Educational Qualification: Student must score 50% marks in 10+2 with Biology group including English from recognized board. Student must secure 50% marks in each subject Physics, Chemistry Biology (PCB).

# Valid Indian Passport.

# Must be NEET-UG qualified.

Admission In IOM: Through Medical Education Common Entrance Exam for Medical UG Courses in Nepal.
